If your license was suspended for an unpaid ticket it is not serious but if it was due to a DWI or unpaid child support you court get a criminal record or probation, and even jail time in some cities. Retain a good lawyer and try to get a conditional or hardship license.

if suspended for an alcohol reason, then you could get the mandatory 30 days jail sentence and a bond of $10000 - plus additional year of license loss if suspended for points, still could have significant penalties, but jail is much less.

It is very possible that if you plead guilty to driving under suspension there will be some incarceration time.

Factors that are important to look at are: why is your license suspended; when are you eligible for reinstatement; what does your criminal history look like; and are there any other aggravating factors?
