Will I get arrested for defending myself?

I was jumped in my alley when I was taking out recycling. I hit the guy to get him off me. Cops came and he said I broke his rib. I told them no way, this guy tried to rob me. Cops took my info but let the other guy go. Am I going to be arrested later?

It is possible. It greatly depends on the facts. Every person has a right to defend themselves with reasonable force. Reasonable depends on the facts and the threat the person is facing at the time of the assault. If excessive force was used, then it is possible that an arrest could result. Your best course of action is to seek the professional services of a qualified criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible.

All you can do is wait to see if you'll be arrested. You should make arrangements with somebody now who you can call & bail you out of jail if it comes to that.

It is difficult to answer that, as I have no say in what the cops do. Whenever people ask me about what a third party will do, I honestly say I have no idea, unless I am the one making the decision. In your case, I would tend to guess that you will not be charged, (just a guess), but you were not hauled into jail and charged at the time, so chances are, you will not be charged.

You could be arrested. Self-defense is a defense you get to put on at trial. Hopefully police will let it go, but DC police do some strange things.
