Should I do community service prior to my preliminary hearing?

I am being charged with shoplifting, and the few attorneys I had talked to on the telephone and in person said I should do some sort of community service before the hearing. What would the purpose of this be? I want the charges to get dropped and I have no prior charges.

Community service prior to the prelim has nothing to do with nothing. You need to stop calling for free advice and consult with a real attorney.
