Possession Charge- Help?

I need help - a few months ago I got busted with a pipe that had a little resin in it (marijuana). Cop said I'll just get a fined $100 or less. Now I have to go to court and the fine is $500?! What happened? What should I do? Did I get charged with a different offense?

Welcome to the budget crises in America. Your fine is probably still $100, but it carries court imposed penalty assessments that will bring it to 6x that amount in total. That is now about the minimum fine, and total, for traffic tickets and other infractions. Misdemeanor minimum fines will set you back $1500-2500 total, or more. It is costly to violate the law now. Become law abiding and avoid the pain.

It sounds like it. You were probably charged with possession of paraphernalia, you should be eligible for drug diversion or prop 36 drug treatment. Ask your lawyer.
