If marijuana has been decriminalized her in Chicago, why am I still getting tickets for it?

I have been under the influence that marijuana was decriminalized in Chicago, the city in which I have residency. Since the decriminalizing of marijuana in this city, I have received 3 separate tickets for possession of marijuana. If marijuana is not illegal here, why am I being ticket for it, and do I have to pay the fines?

Marijuana is illegal. The only thing that changed is the police have the option of giving a ticket instead of arrest.

I live in Chicago area, and decriminalizing of marijuana is not entirely correct. ?It is up to the officer who apprehends you whether to issue you a city ordinance violation, punishable by a fine only, or to arrest you and charge you with a misdemeanor (State) charge of possession of marijuana. ?Sounds to me like you have lucked out, as you only got ordinance violations. ?Your good luck may run out one of these days if the officer who sees you with marijuana arrests you under the state's criminal statute.
