How can I prove self-defense?

After getting in a verbal incident with another guy at the bar over the weekend while celebrating St. Patrick's Day, I was struck in the back of the head. I have fighter training and I used it to defend myself after getting hit. The other guy got messed up pretty badly but I wasn't the one who started the fight, it was him. Now I received word that I'm being charged with assault. How do I prove that I was acting to defend myself?
