How can I get a theft charge off my record?

Is this something that will go away after a certain number of years? Who do I need to contact to make this charge go away? It happened probably 8 or 9 years ago when I was much younger.

    New York does not have an expungement statute. All you can do is to get a Certificate of Relief from Disabilities to get certain jobs and benefits that are otherwise unavailable to you.
