How bad is it to file a false police report?

I messed up. How much trouble will I get in? Should I tell them it's a fake report or wait until they figure it out? I'm 16.

    You can be charged with a crime if you intentionally filed a false police report. If the crime you falsely reported was a misdemeanor, then you can be charged with a misdemeanor. If it was a felony then you could be charged with a felony.

    Get a lawyer. Do not admit anything and if subpoenaed in the case refuse to testify since you would incriminate yourself in a crime. This is called taking the fifth.
