Does a DUI stay on your record forever?

How long will it stay on my public record? I got on in '02 so it's already been 11 years. Can I get it removed and how would I do that? Do I need to hire a lawyer to get it off my record for good? Once it's off do I have to tell people that I got it when I'm interviewing?
