Can you be arrested for slapping someone?

NEW YORK: What kind of charges am I looking at? This girl said she's going to have me arrested. I slapped her at a bar last weekend because she called me a whore and I am not! She hit me back. Then I left. I probably shouldn't have done that but now I'm scared I'm going to jail. What is going to happen to me? Should I file an assault charge first since she also hit me. I have witnesses.

You should not go to the poilce as you were the first aggressor and you too will be charged possibly. If I were you I would call her and sincerely apologize. If you are arrested for harassment, (it's not an assault unless she was injured) your lawyer will get an ACD dismissal. The next time a person calls you a name just remain calm, consider the source, and walk away before a fight starts and you get injured, arrested, or jumped by the other person's friends. Intelligent, sophisticated people do not engage in violent behavior unless it is in self-defense and there are no other options available.

I would need further information to answer, such as have charges been filed against you. You should consult/hire an attorney and disclose all the facts and circumstances and to represent you if you do get charged with anything. You may not want to try to file charges against her because if charges were not going to be filed against you, now if you file against her she may file charges against you especially since you hit her first. You may want to see if charges are filed against you and if after awhile no charges were filed then probably forget about filing charges against her.
