Can you be arrested for asking for the ID, name and badge number of an officer?
I was leaving a music venue and decided to have a cigarette before entering my vehicle. While having my smoke, I noticed an officer who seem to be harassing some of the other patrons of the venue. I stepped into the conversation, and maybe I should not have, and asked the officer for his name and badge number. I figured if he kept harassing them, I could turn his name over to his superior. In return the officer said I had no right to that information and immediately proceeded to handcuff me and put me in the back of his car. He threatened to charge me with "obstructing justice". He left me in the car for about 20 minutes while continuing to harass the other patrons. Once he was done, he opened the door, pulled me out, and un-handcuffed me. He then said if I did not leave immediately, he would arrest me for disturbing the peace. Was I illegally detained for asking for his name and badge number?
