Are courts required to notify you of a warrant?

The police came and got me, picked me up from my place in front of my family and girl and neighbors. They did not have no papers or anything on hand, just told me that they had a warrant and that I had to come with them. If I had an idea that there was a warrant I would have turned myself in.
