Woman Fakes Cancer to Avoid Drug Charge

The Deseret Morning News reports that a 35-year-old Utah woman has been sentenced to jail for prescription fraud and forgery.

Apparently, the woman originally dodged a drug charge by presenting a doctor’s letter describing her breast cancer and mastectomy. But prosecutors questioned the doctor and found that the letter was a fake–and so was the cancer.

Since she was caught, the woman pleaded guilty to one count of forgery and two counts of prescription fraud. She will spend 120 days in jail and pay $2,400 in fines.
