Disgraced Congressman Wins One in Texas Supreme Court

The Washington Post reported that a Texas congressman tied to disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff won a round in the Texas Supreme Court when the Court refused to reinstate a conspiracy charge against Tom DeLay. A state district judge had thrown out a charge of conspiracy to violate Texas’ election code after DeLay’s attorneys argued the law hadn’t taken effect at the time of DeLay’s alleged crimes. The State Supreme Court backed up the district court.

Two criminal charges remain against DeLay, money laundering and conspiracy to launder money. After effective destroying the careers of several politicians, DeLay complained that the prosecutor had damaged his family and his own career.
