Johnson City, Tennessee police arrested two fire eaters at the annual Blue Plum Festival. The performers were cited for a safety hazard. The men were arrested when, as part of a standard fire-eating trick, they used kerosene to spew fire from their mouths. Police insisted they posed a “danger by flames that was around the area of performance,” and charged them with reckless endangerment.
Police said the performers were carrying around a gallon-sized container of kerosene that could have caused serious injury if it ignited during their act. Perhaps they should watch out for jugglers who could bean someone with an errant club.
