New York Mets Fan Jailed for Shinning Flashlight at Players

An overzealous New York Mets fan has been banned from Shea Stadium for 3 years. Frank Martinez will also have to spend 15 days in jail for shinning a high-powered flashlight at players. He was sentenced to jail-time for interfering with a professional sporting event.

During a game against the Atlanta braves Martinez shined a high-powered flashlight at a pair of Braves players. Authorities say that Martinez, who was sitting behind home plate, turned the light on Braves pitcher Tim Hudson and Shortstop Edgar Renteria. A Queens district attorney said that “in a game in which the ball can travel upward of 110 mph, the defendant’s actions were dangerous to both spectators and players”

Because the Mets will move from Shea to a new stadium before his suspension is complete, Martinez can never attend another Mets game at Shea Stadium.
