A sensational, national trial, ended when a Tennessee jury found Mary Winkler guilty of only voluntary man-slaughter in the brutal killing of her husband. Winkler could have faced 51 to 60 years in prison if found guilty of first-degree murder (Prosecutors had declined to ask for the death penalty). She now faces a sentence of between three and six years.
Winkler was arrested after shooting her husband with a 12-guage shotgun while he slept. Winkler then packed her three daughters and drove 340 miles to Orange Beach, Alabama, where she was arrested.
