Connecticut Youth Charged With Hate Crime for Voice Mail Messages

A 17-year old Stamford Connecticut boy was charged with a hate crime for a racist verbal attack left on a fellow student’s voicemail. The juvenile, whose name was not released, was charged with two class-D felonies: intimidation based on bigotry and first degree harassment.

The arrest took place on the day the victim returned to school after more than a month of being tutored at home. She had left school in early February after receiving several voicemails containing racial slurs and death threats, allegedly left by four male students at her school.
