Jury selection began yesterday in the murder trial of music legend Phil Spector. Spector arrived sporting a new blond, Beatles-style hairdo and smiling for photographers. He is accused of murdering actress Lana Clarkson in 2003.
Spector is best known for his “wall of sound” recording technique and his work with the Beatles, the Ronettes, the Crystals, the Righteous Brothers, and Tina Turner.
The judge will allow the actual trial, set to begin this summer, to be broadcast live. California judges have been leery of allowing cameras in the courtroom since the debacle of the O.J. Simpson trial. Fifty news organizations have already asked for seats during the trial.
Prosecutors say Clarkson met Spector the night before her death. She was killed the next morning in Spector’s mansion. Defense attorneys say she shot herself.
