Woman Pleads Guilty to Wire Fraud after Selling “Secret Satellite Scans”

A Louisiana woman entered a guilty plea to wire fraud charges this week and admitted to defrauding victims to the tune of nearly a million dollars. Stacey Finley convinced 22 friends and acquaintances that she was a CIA agent, and that she could arrange for satellite body scans and secret medical treatment.

It may seem surprising that “solid, middle-class, educated citizens” fell for Finley’s representations and depleted savings, pensions and life insurance to pay her, but U.S. Attorney Donald Washington describes Finley as a cult-like, charismatic personality who was able to persuade her victims that the scam was real.

Finley could face up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, and must be ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $989,898.
